The Hill That Waves Back

“when we would leave they would stand on the hill and wave as we left”

A rail ramp curved into Chisel Rock’s mountain, and by evening its finest feature was not the engineering. Mac_Attack9 admired how the tracks disappeared into the slope. Ronicus explained that the shape came from an old family scene: when his grandparents’ mountain house vanished behind the car, they would stand on the hill and wave.

Boofreon called it wholesome. Then the visitors kept coming.

JeyAereo toured Chisel Rock from a quadrocopter and unfolded the map with Ronicus. Northward, the river already ran past XavierGaining and on toward Jey’s home, where it split three ways. “People connected by a river,” Jey said. The remaining mountain between them began to look less like an obstacle and more like tomorrow’s shovel work.

Before leaving, they watched Chisel Rock’s first solarpunk wind turbine begin turning. Boofreon pictured flying past it. “that’s the idea,” Ronicus answered. A place built from a goodbye had become somewhere people were planning to return to.

A Penguin Took the Counter

Mac_Attack9 went looking for an emperor penguin and came home with a regular one whose shopkeeper hat floated several inches above its head. It was immediately hired. By evening the new Create shop was selling cogs, shafts, zinc, blaze burners and crushing wheels; Ronicus handed a shopping list to the penguin and pronounced the delivery system “clean.” Royal credentials remain optional in retail.

The Long Way to Mushrooms

Before dawn, Boofreon walked vChaaps through the three-floor Create Workshop, bank and winery, then offered a train ride off spawn. vChaaps thanked him for a “very friendly welcome,” studied the map, and chose the least convenient beautiful destination available: four mushroom islands far to the east. Naturally, the missing rail line sounded like part of the appeal.

  • Show the newsroom the view that makes you slow down on the way home.
